39 countries take part at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 which takes place in Rotterdam and 25 finalists will come together during the Grand Final.

To understand the Eurovision Song Contest you first need to know what Eurovision is: a network of broadcasters affiliated with the European Broadcasting Union EBU, the European Broadcasting Organization. Eurovision is the network through which images are exchanged for news, sports and cultural programs. Eurovision started in the 1950s. An additional thought was that through music the countries would be connected with each other in post-war Europe.

Cities of Learning feels very much connected with the Eurovision Song Contest due to the connectedness it brings between peoples and organisations within Europe. Therefore Cities of Learning are watching and celebrating the contest together, online from diverse Cities and Regions of Learning. Rotterdam City of Learning will host the online event and invites all Cities and Regions of Learning to join.

Grand FinalSaturday, 22 May, 2021, 21:00 CEST
Venue & Location Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands

The Eurovision is all about winning the Eurovision trophy! And this year there is one from trash! The plastic materials to build the sculpture were collected from the waterways using a variety of water bikes and electric boats with built-in waste collection systems. After the Contest, the gigantic trophy will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to RanMarine, a Rotterdam-based organisation born out of a desire to improve the well-being of the world's oceans and waterways.

How to watch the Eurovision Song Contest and the running order can be found here.

It is recommended to download the official Eurovision App. It will bring you closer then ever to the Eurovision. You even can clapp for the songs that you like during the Eurovision and the crowd sound in the studio will be higher.

When you want to learn more about the theme 'Open Up', the logo or the stage, then have a look at this webpage. It's very interesting how technique and art are coming together for solidarity.
